A goal of any government should be transparency, whether it is as large as the federal government of the United States of America or as small as the student senate of Baker University.
In the old days, the only way news traveled was by mouth via town criers. Then came the birth of print, bringing along with it newspapers.
While this evolution gave people a great way to monitor their governments through the “watchdog” media, it was also a great avenue for government officials to disperse their own messages.
Similarly, The Baker OrangeThe Baker Orange has consistently reported over the internal and external transactions of student senate, but now it is time for the senators to report back to their constituents. has consistently reported over the internal and external transactions of student senate, but now it is time for the senators to report back to their constituents. This blog was created to encourage greater awareness of student senate and to hold senators accountable for the positions they were elected to.
I pledge transparency for Baker’s student government and promise that an effort will be made to keep the students at Baker informed of what their elected officials are doing.
In return however, student senate needs the support and input of the student body. Whether you are part-time, full-time, traditional or non-traditional, it does not matter. I urge you to contact your student representatives and let them know your concerns about campus or student life in general.
We have been awarded an opportunity to let our voice be heard on this campus and it is absolutely essential that we seize this opportunity.
So please, instead of complaining in your dorm room to your friend about an aspect of Baker that you dislike, tell your senator about it.
A list of all senators and contact information can be found on The Baker Orange’s website at www.thebakerorange.com/studentsenate/. Take advantage of this opportunity and help us make Baker a better university.
Make sure to check back regularly for updates on student senate activity and to hold us accountable for the questions and concerns you bring forth.
