There is one truth in life and it is very simple: college students love baby animals. The Harlaxton Facebook page is constantly being bombarded with cute videos and pictures of kittens and sloths, and now even the professors have joined in. We found out how well Dr. Green knows his students when he posted a gallery of pictures of elephant seals and now the stream of animal related posts is enormous.
This week we extended it even further. We had our second British Studies exam, which puts you at a very high stress level, but it was easily combatted with the use of cute, fluffy animals. The college brought in a local farmer and his three little lambs.
All week the conversation always revolved around these little creatures. Every moment that wasn’t filled with British history was circling around discussion on lambs. Videos and photos flooded social media and people were getting excited.
One professor took it a different route and pointed out that there would be a bonfire after the lambs arrived and asked whether that worried anyone. Needless to say, many people did not find the humor in this situation.
As we took our tests, it was on everyone’s mind: lambs. Soon after the test was over, an hour was then killed discussing the arrival of the baby sheep and looking at photos.
When the lambs arrived it was a race down to see them, and we all crowded around as three of the most adorable creatures were pulled out of the truck and passed around. It was like the pack of college students had turned into children.
Everyone was taking pictures, reaching over to pet them, and cooing at them as if they were babies. It was the moment that everyone realized our true weakness was little baby animals. The night was followed by a large bonfire where we roasted marshmallows and drank hot chocolate, but the lambs were still a topic of conversation.
Our next exam is in a month. Offer us a few baby animals to cuddle our worries away afterwards and we should be fine.
