I am a firm believer that the music you listen to on any given day relates to the mood you’re in. Whether it be happy, sad, angry, upset, nostalgic; there’s always a certain set of bands for that particular time.
Whenever I feel the need to step back into the 90s but don’t have my trusty time machine with me, I particularly enjoy one up-and-coming band that seems to have perfected the art of sounding anything but modern: Japandroids.
This is true proof of not judging a book by its cover. Given the band’s name, one would probably assume that they were some sort of space-age-y techno group that wore robot costumes just ‘cause.
In reality, Japandroids’ music is a great mixture of vocals diminished by a slightly gritty reverb, heavy use of power chords, and strong drumming. That description may make them sound a bit glam rock, but you’ll have to bear with me.
This group is truly fantastic, with their debut album, Post-Nothing Post-Nothing, being released only a few short years ago. If you’re feeling particularly angst-y and want to break out the size-too-big flannel shirt, Japandroids is definitely the way to go., being released only a few short years ago.
