The Baker University women’s golf team won its first Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament in school history Monday and Tuesday at Spring Lake Country Club in Quincy, Ill.
The Wildcats led Graceland University by 12 strokes after Monday’s round and ended up winning the tournament by 19 strokes over Central Methodist University.
Freshman Rebecca Holder was the overall runner-up after losing to Peru State’s Jordan Schaardt in a three-hole playoff. Both golfers shot a two-round total of 183.
Senior Bristol Brandt and freshman Lindsey Mateer rounded out the Wildcats who were named to the All-Conference Tournament team, by placing fourth and fifth, respectively. Mateer was also selected as the HAAC Women’s Golfer of the Year. She won the HAAC Women’s Golfer of the Week award three times throughout the season.
Head coach Karen Exon capped off the honors for the Wildcats as she earned the HAAC Women’s Golf Coach of the Year.
By winning the conference tournament, Exon and the Wildcats earned an automatic bid to the NAIA Women’s Golf National Championship May 21-24 at Wilderness Ridge Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb.
