Men’s soccer opens season at 1-1

After its opening weekend, the Baker University men’s soccer team is 1-1 with a victory over No. 14 Ashford University and a loss to AIB College of Business.

The Wildcats began their season on the road in Clinton, Iowa, where they defeated Ashford on Sunday with a 2-1 overtime win.

With less than 10 minutes left in regulation, Ashford’s Lucas Almeida scored the first goal of the game. Baker sophomore Amer Didic answered less than two minutes later with a goal of his own, sending the game into overtime, where senior Richard Klein would score the game-winning goal.

The ‘Cats returned home the following day to take on AIB at North Park, where they fell to the Eagles 1-0.

Senior Andy Griffin led the team with two of Baker’s four total shots during the game. AIB took eight shots with three on goal.

Despite giving up the lone goal, senior goalkeeper Matt Bickley had two saves on the day.

The Wildcats are next scheduled to face Oklahoma City University at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at North Park.
