Sorority thinks pink for breast cancer awareness
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which has the women of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority thinking pink.
The goal of the Sigma chapter’s Think Pink Week, which coincided with BU’s homecoming week, was to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.
“I think a lot of people didn’t realize that October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” said Taylor Schley, Zeta Tau Alpha philanthropy chair. “By us being out there and doing these different things they kind of knew more about it.”
Zeta Tau Alpha hosted events for each day of Think Pink Week, including trivia, pink lemonade sales and a yogurt-eating contest.
Nationally, Zeta Tau Alpha is partnered with various organizations to promote breast cancer awareness. Some of these include the NFL, Yoplait and Self Magazine.
Overall, Schley and junior Kendra Clark thought the campus Think Pink Week was successful.
“It takes a lot of dedication from our members to be able to attend all those events,” Clark said.
Zeta Tau Alpha will host other events throughout October and the year to promote breast cancer awareness with all proceeds going to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
The sorority will have a booth at the Maple Leaf Festival, where members will sell various merchandise that promotes breast cancer awareness. It will also have a Pink Out 5k charity run in the spring.
