Avila keeps undefeated record alive against BU

Story by Lauren Bechard

Despite an effort to ruin Avila University’s undefeated record, the Baker University women’s soccer team fell to the Eagles 1-0 on Saturday at Liston Stadium.

The Wildcats fell to 5-5-6 overall and 1-2-2 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, while the Eagles improved to 15-0-1.

Each team had a strong defense, which kept the game scoreless until the 73rd minute of play. Baker only allowed one shot for the Eagles during the first half and outshot Avila 7-6 altogether.

Junior Alexa Fryer and freshman Krista Hooper each took three shots each but were unable to connect. Hooper is the shot leader and leading scorer for Baker this season with 38 shots, 17 on goal, and six goals so far.

Despite giving up one goal, junior Rachel Theobald had three saves on the night. The goalkeeper has recorded 57 saves and allowed 18 this season, good for a 76 percent save average.

The ‘Cats have just two HAAC games left in their regular season. The team will take on Missouri Valley College at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Marshall, Mo.
