Fresh off its first national ranking in school history, the No. 21 Baker University women’s basketball team earned a 60-44 victory over Avila University on Thursday in Kansas City, Mo.

The Eagles stayed close to BU in the first half, only trailing by five at halftime. However, BU went on a 17-5 run after the break, pushing the Wildcats to the 16-point victory.

Sophomore Macy Wallisch had a standout-game for the Wildcats, posting 12 points and pulling down a career-high 13 rebounds. The 6-foot-3-inch center is ranked fourth in the NAIA, averaging more than two blocks per game, and is No. 5 in the country with 43 total blocks.

Baker also saw double-figure performances from seniors BriAnna Garza and Shea Shoemaker. Shoemaker chipped in 11 points with a pair of 3-pointers, while Garza had 10 points and seven assists.

With the win, Baker improved to 5-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference and 11-6 on the season. BU will look to keep its three-game win streak alive against Evangel University at 2 p.m. Saturday in Collins Center.
