Although it started out as just a Mexican Restaurant, El Patron has turned into what owner Beto Aguilar calls “Mexican food with a bar atmosphere.”

On Thursdays at 8 p.m., the restaurant turns on the music and fires up the margarita machines for “College Night.” Baker students can head down to 711 Eighth St. to get their fix of half price appetizers, dollar tacos and dollar margaritas.

Some students can’t resist the free chips and salsa, let alone the discount drinks, which packs the small restaurant on Thursday nights.

Baldwin City isn’t known for it’s college-like atmosphere, but El Patron’s College Night might be a change toward a more student-friendly town.
