The inspiration for The Itty Bitty Picture Show came from the Kansas Art Association, which sponsored a postcard series. However, since the association disbanded, members of the LAC wanted to bring back the tiny paintings.
“One of the things that I’m most tickled about is that it got a lot of people painting who, you know, you could put it off, put it off, put it off, and say, ‘I really need to clean the kitchen,’ or you know, ‘I’ve got to go see my kids,’ or whatever, so it really got a lot of people working,” Sandy Cardens, LAC gallery coordinator, said.
Each of the artists is from either Douglas, Franklin or Johnson County.
“I think we have some very talented people in the area, and a lot of people don’t realize that,” Cardens said.
The paintings are for sale and were awarded prizes, as well. The first place painting was titled “Snow Blessings” by Kathy Bourgeois, and sold for $100. Second place was Linda Everett’s “Douglas County Road” watercolor painting, which sold for $45. Third place was “Barnyard Visit II,” a watercolor painting, by Debra Sue Dunlap, and it sold for $85.
Gallery hours are from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday.
