IFC to host guys’ night out
The Baker University Interfraternity Council is hosting a casino-themed guys' night open to all male students. The event will take place at 8:30 p.m Tuesday in Collins Center. IFC will provide food, drinks, music and casino games.
Vice President of Recruitment Ben Sobek said the event is an opportunity for men on campus to get better acquainted with one another and a chance to learn more about Greek life.
“Giving Greeks and independents the chance to mingle is our overall goal,” Sobek said. “Of course, I would love to see some of the non-Greek men make the decision to join a chapter, but honestly, as long as all men walk away feeling they have had a good time and have gotten to know a couple new people, I would call the event a success.”
IFC President Sean Driskill is hoping this event will help boost Greek life at Baker.
“As an IFC (executive) board, we are hoping that the event will bring in potential new members and help promote Greek life on Baker’s campus,” Driskill said. “We are trying to get every house to have the possibility of bringing in a spring rush class, which will help keep the Greek life on Baker’s campus thriving.”
Both Driskill and Sobek said the idea for this event came from Greek life graduate assistant Amanda Wright.
“Amanda Wright was definitely a key person in making this happen. She really believes in the positive influence that the Greek experience can have on people, so she is very willing to do as much as she can to give fraternity men the opportunity to reach out and get to know non-Greek men on campus,” Sobek said.
Driskill is hoping Baker men will be able to see the opportunities that come with being apart of a fraternity.
“We want to be able to show the potential new members the brotherhood that exists in each house, the connections, networking opportunities going Greek can offer and the values (and) morals that Greek life has been founded on,” Driskill said.
