Henna tattoos raise money for art club

For anyone who has always wanted a tattoo, but doesn’t want to make the permanent commitment, the Baker Art Club has the answer.

The art club gave henna tattoos in Harter Union Thursday in order to raise money for the organization.

“Lately, we’ve been trying to increase the numbers of people who attend our art club meetings, and since henna’s a fun way to kind of get the word out about what we’re doing in art club,” Clare Courtney, sophomore art club member, said. “We’re looking to raise some funds so maybe we can do a documentary night with pizza, or something like that.”

Although the club has had low attendance at meetings and events, current members are trying to increase involvement through new and more frequent events. On Feb. 25, the club will host tie-dye Tuesday.

“People can either bring something themselves to dye or spend some money with us and buy a T-shirt from us to tie-dye,” Courtney said.

The henna tattoos are one of the most popular art club events, which is why the cost is now $1 for each tattoo, rather than free as it had been in the past.

Anyone is welcome to become a member of the Baker Art Club.

“Don’t worry about it if you’re not artistic,” Courtney said. “It’s just a fun way to hang out with people and do crafty things.”
