Humanities Department to host film series
The Humanities Department will present a free showing of the film “Capote” on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Owens A.V. room.
The film stars late actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, who plays author Truman Capote. “Captote” depicts the author researching for his book about a slain Kansas family.
Snacks will be provided at the event and assistant professors Tamara Slankard and Joanne Nystrom Janssen will be present afterward for a question and answer session about the department’s first film showing.
“(The Humanities Department) do fun stuff also,” Slankard said. “We hope lots of students show up. There’s no pressure. It’s a way to come out and enjoy some great films.”
The Humanities Department decided to create this event as a way for students to see that “studying humanities is much more than sentences.”
“Once (the students) see how great humanities are, hopefully they’ll take more (courses),” Slankard said.
A second film, “Girl Rising,” a film about girls and global issues, will be shown on March 4 at 7:30 in Owens A.V.
