#BakerOrangeFridays entices school spirit
Baker has a rich tradition of school spirit, whether it is people showing their spirit at athletic activities or other events that the university has to offer. Director of Student Life Randy Flowers is in charge of Baker’s newest form of showing school spirit, #BakerOrangeFridays. Every week, people send a picture to Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #BakerOrangeFridays. The winner is chosen by overall quality and creativity of the picture.
“I do believe this encourages people to have more spirit,” Flowers said. “We have an issue with students wearing other school’s colors, and on Friday we would like the attention to be on our athletics and what we have going on over the weekend.”
People who win each week get a prize. In the past, winners had been given two tickets to the Baker football game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. Previous winner junior Victoria Paul sent in a candid picture with quarterback Nick Marra and former nurse Ruth Sarna.
“I thought it was a good representation of Baker,” Paul said. “It really showed how caring Nurse Ruth was and how much we love and miss her.”
Paul encourages people to participate in the event in order to not only raise school spirit, but because prizes are involved.
“Baker Orange Fridays are good because it prepares everyone for all the games and gets them excited about it,” Paul said. “I think it kind of brings recognition that there is always something going on at Baker that everyone can go to and support.”
