The Lindenwood University football team only possessed the football for 22:02 in Saturday’s game against Baker University at Liston Stadium, but that was plenty of time for the Lions to put points on the scoreboard.
No. 6 Lindenwood defeated the Wildcats 48-14 while totaling 563 yards of offense, 480 of which were passing yards.
The game was scoreless after the first quarter, and Lindenwood only held a 14-7 advantage with 3:21 to play in the first half, after a Scott Meyer 20-yard touchdown run. After that, it was all Lindenwood.
“It was 14-7 and then they went down quickly and put a two-score lead on, which they do well,” head coach Mike Grossner said. “They are going to take advantage of poor play and there were times when we weren’t playing well.”
Lindenwood blocked a Baker punt, which led to a touchdown, and had a 67-yard punt return, which also led to a touchdown, in the first five minutes of the half to break the game open.
Junior John Babb added a Baker touchdown with less than three minutes to play in the game to make the score 48-14, but the Wildcats did not have enough firepower to match Lindenwood’s offense.
The Wildcats’ next opponent is Benedictine College at 1 p.m. Saturday in Atchison.
“(We’ve) got a great challenge this week at Benedictine,” Grossner said.
