With $421 donated to the Baldwin City Emergency Fund and 436 food items given to the food pantry, members of the Baker University greek community celebrated their hard work during Monday night’s greek awards.
Greek Week took place April 20-27 with multiple events for the fraternities and sororities on campus to take part and compete in.
“I think Greek Week was a huge success. You can look easily to the amount our greeks gave back,” Brett Bruner, director of greek life and health education, said. “I think it’s a huge accomplishment for greeks … “
The week was full of traditional and new events. Chalk the Walk and Recycled Art were two of the new events that Bruner said the Greek Week Council came up with to “breathe some life” into the week.
Rose Garrison, Phi Mu sorority president, said the new competitions involving art were her favorite.<br/>"They had never done anything like that in the past," she said. Garrison also was proud of her sorority for winning the 2009 Greek Week Award.
“It feels great,” she said. “The (women) all worked really hard, and they deserved it.”
Jeff Skillman, Delta Tau Delta fraternity president, was proud the awards his fraternity won, too.
Delta Tau Delta took home eight awards, including the Five-Star Chapter award.<br/>Skillman also was named Greek Man of the Year.Skillman also was named Greek Man of the Year.

“I was more excited about the Five-Star Chapter award, which basically means we’re the best fraternity on campus in a variety of different categories,” he said. “This is just a great indication that our work we’ve put in has actually been rewarded appropriately in our eyes.”
The Mr. BU winner also was announced at the awards ceremony. Sophomore Robert Woodall won the competition, which took place April 20. He was nominated by Zeta Phi Beta sorority.
Bruner was pleased with the turnout at the awards ceremony in Rice Auditorium.
“We had the auditorium filled,” he said. “It was nice to really come together in a night of celebration and recognition for our greek community.”
