The final events of inaugural week have been canceled following the death of sophomore Sione Maumau. In its place will be a prayer service today at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church led by University Minister Kevin Hopkins.
In an email to the Baker community, President Lynne Murray announced her decision to cancel the plans as the community grieves the “great loss” it suffered Wednesday night.
“Baker University is a close-knit community, and our focus needs to be with the students, faculty and staff who are suffering during this time,” Murray said.
Murray invites everyone to the service and reminds them about university-offered counseling series during this time through Tim Hodges, director of counseling services.
