The Baker University volleyball team split its games once again last weekend, as the Wildcats went 2-2 at the St. Ambrose Invitational in Davenport, Iowa.
Baker defeated College of the Ozarks winning three of five games with scores of 30-32, 30-19 and 15-6, followed by another win against St. Ambrose University, winning three of fives games again with scores of 30-28, 33-31 and 15-13.
Head coach Kathy Allen said she thought the team showed improvement.
“We actually improved a lot over the course of the weekend,” Allen said.
The remaining matches slipped away from Baker, as the team was defeated by both University of Dubuque and Northwestern College. Dubuque disposed of Baker with scores of 31-29, 30-26 and 15-11. Northwestern won 30-25, 30-15 and 30-23.
Allen thought the team played well, but should have come away with another win.
“I thought we probably should have won against Dubuque – we were the better team,” Allen said.
Junior Kelly Wilbur has been sidelined due to an ankle sprain, and the team has had to adjust, Allen said.
“Kelly is a very dynamic player, but Renay (Carter, senior) has done a good job stepping up for her,” Allen said.
Leading the squad was sophomore Alexis Pryor. Pryor was named to the all-tournament team and had an average of 3.9 kills per game.
The team took home its first conference win Wednesday after beating Evangel University 3-1 in Springfield, Mo.
