Members of Delta Tau Delta fraternity are looking for some screams and scares to help out their philanthropy this Halloween.
Terror Tracks, which is sponsored by the Baldwin City Community Theater, Inc., is an annual event every October at Baldwin City’s Midland Railway.
The haunted train ride features people dressed up in scary costumes, such as clowns and a headless horseman, both on the train and outside at stops along the way.
The community theater hires members of Delta Tau Delta to scare the passengers throughout the train ride.
All the money received from working this event will be donated to the National Kidney Foundation, which is the fraternity’s philanthropy.
“This is one of the events the guys get really excited for,” sophomore Jake Nowak said. “So, it’s a good time.”
Terror Tracks started Oct. 22 and 23 and will continue Friday and Saturday.
The first train ride departs at 6:30 p.m., followed by two others at 8 and 9:30 p.m.
For sophomore Jordan Robertson, this is his second year helping with Terror Tracks and he said this year he is scaring people by dressing in all black, wearing the scariest mask he can find and carrying around a chainsaw without a working chain.
Robertson said he is really excited to dress up and scare people.
“Any chance I get to wear a costume, and look ridiculous, is a great time to me,” Robertson said.
While he is expecting more people to come to Terror Tracks this weekend, Robertson is pleased with the turnout of people coming to get scared so far.
“This is one of the biggest Terror Tracks … in a while,” Robertson said. “A lot of people are showing up, so that’s good.”
Junior Bradford Oliva has been helping with this event since he joined the fraternity his freshman year.
This year, he said he will be on the train dressed as a devil in a lab coat with a machete.
Oliva said he always enjoys scaring people, especially adults, as long as he’s sneaky about it.
“It’s a lot of fun,” Oliva said. “Because I’d like to think I’m a pretty good actor.”
In addition to Terror Tracks, Nowak said Delta Tau Delta will also be participating in Trick-or-Treat for Canned Goods Sunday.
Members of the fraternity will be dressing up in costumes to go trick-or-treating.
But instead of collecting candy, they will be collecting toiletries and non-perishable food items for the Baldwin City Food Pantry, allowing them to don their scary masks once again for a good cause.
