Greek life has always been a big deal on Baker University’s campus, so when Greek Week rolls around, everyone knows it … usually.
This year, however, it felt like some of the week’s activities were not as organized or as well attended as they could have been.
No one can argue the fact that giving back to our community is a good thing. It’s something that Baker and its greeks pride themselves on.
Greek Week provided many opportunities for the campus to give back, but lots of people failed to take the opportunity.
The problem may have been that more people than usual were organizing the events, which caused some confusion.
Or, it could have been that a couple of the events were held on a weekend. It’s sad to say, but not many students are going to take time out of their hopefully fun-filled weekend to come back to school and work, even if it is for a good cause.
Students raised $421 and donated it to the Baldwin City Emergency Fund. Although that is a fairly good amount of cash, more could have been raised.
The greeks donated 436 food items to the Food Pantry after the Hunger Hunt, which gave the Baldwin City community the chance to give.
Now, come on Baldwin, we know you have more in your cabinets than that.
Baker students and the community need to remember that it’s not just greek members that can help out during an event like Greek Week. Anyone can donate a canned good or a dollar or two.
What Greek Week represents is great, but if there's going to be all this hype around an event like this, students and the community better make it worthwhile.<br/>&#160;
