Bouncing back from a 3-0 loss to Benedictine, the No. 13 women’s soccer team recorded a 2-0 victory on Saturday at Grand View in Des Moines, Iowa. The win pushed Baker’s record to 10-2-0 and 4-1-0 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

BU saw goals by some familiar names this year in junior Keeley Atkin and senior Jenna Carducci. Freshman Sierra McKinney got credit for the assist in Carducci’s goal.

“Coming into the Grand View game we knew we needed a win coming off a loss against Benedictine,” McKinney said. “We just came with an attitude to win and show Grand View the type of competition in the conference,”

The Wildcats dominated Grand View with 11 total shots and six on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Hunt added another shutout victory to her resume with an impressive five saves. Hunt was later named the Heart Defensive Player of the Week.

“I think we all have been playing really well lately,” McKinney said. “There are always aspects to work on but I don’t think there is anyone in particular that has stood out. We all work as a team and succeed as a team.”

Sophomore Kady Dieringer, who is tied for second on the team in goals with six, thought that Saturday’s win was big for the Wildcats.

“It always feels good to get a win,” Dieringer said. “Accomplishing the 10th win with another shutout makes it that much sweeter.”

The Wildcats have only five games left in the regular season before they advance to the playoffs.

“I’m really excited for the playoffs,” McKinney said. “Being a freshman it’s something I’ve never experienced before l so I’m really excited to see what it’s like.”

Of its five remaining games, Baker will face some classic rivalries like Missouri Valley and MidAmerica Nazarene.

“The key is to always play to our full potential and never give up,” Hunt said. “We do not know what the other team will be bringing so we have to be at our best.”

Baker next will return home to start the last leg of its schedule. After playing Avila on Tuesday at Liston Stadium, the Wildcats play a day game with the Graceland Yellow Jackets at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Liston Stadium.
