Women’s soccer starts another streak
The Wildcats have started their last month of the season with three consecutive wins. Overall, the women’s soccer team is 12-2-0 overall and 6-1-0 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
Baker defeated Avila 2-1 and Graceland 3-1 in its last two home games.
Against Graceland, the Wildcats outshot their opponent 21-3. Krista Hooper led the offensive attack with seven shots, followed by Keely Atkin with six.
Katie Hibbeler scored early in the fourth minute of the game, then assisted Hooper’s goal to put the Wildcats up 2-0 at halftime. Graceland’s Slobodyanik scored the lone goal for Graceland in the 85th minute, but Madison Armoneit scored the security goal for Baker in the 90th minute.
Heart Defensive Player of the Week Rachel Hunt made two saves.
In the Avila game, Baker controlled the ball again. This time the Wildcats outshot their opponent 21-5. Although Avila was the first to get on the board, Jenna Carducci and Megan Johnson each scored unassisted in the second half to put Baker ahead.
Hunt made one save in goal. Avila’s Schimmel had nine saves.
The ‘Cats will travel to Marshall, Missouri, on Saturday, Oct. 24, to take on the Missouri Valley Vikings. The Vikings are currently 10-2-3 overall and 4-2-2 in the Heart.
