Volleyball loses two in doubleheader

The Baker volleyball fell to Culver-Stockton and Ottawa in a home doubleheader Saturday. Culver-Stockton won in three sets, 25-7, 25-21, 25-20. The Ottawa match went to the fifth set, but Baker lost 25-23, 17-25, 22-25, 25-11, 15-13.

In their first match against Culver-Stockton this season, the Wildcats missed some opportunities. While The ‘Cats are typically a strong blocking team, they only had four total team blocks.

Natalie Minchow had seven kills and Kailin Cordes contributed five more.

The Wildcats were stronger against Ottawa in the back-and-forth five set match.

“We have played Ottawa three times this year and knew what to expect against them,” Minchow said. “Unfortunately, we just couldn’t pull ahead.”

Again, Minchow led in kills with 12. On the defensive side of the ball, Kadie Baumgardner had 33 digs and the ‘Cats had 10 total team blocks.

The volleyball team has only two matches left in the season against conference opponents, Central Methodist and Avila.

“If we all do our best and give 100 percent effort, that’s all I can ask for,” Minchow said about the last two matches of the season and the end of her college volleyball career.
