Those who have passed by the Collins Center in the last month may have noticed an addition to campus: a large electronic display sign.

Senior Director of Development Amy Piersol said the sign was given to the university by several members of the Hawk family to honor all past and future members of the BU Athletic Hall of Fame and in memory of their family member, Clarence “Babe” Hawk, who graduated in 1963.

Clarence was inducted into the BU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009.

Some students voiced their approval for the new sign.

“I think the sign really makes us seem like a university instead of just a school,” junior Rachel Moore said.

Freshman Houstin Chinn added, “It is a really good addition to the landscape.”

Sports Information Director Tyler Price is in charge of the content displayed on the sign, including game dates and events in the Collins Center. This week, one of the side panels will be removed to undergo a paint touch-up and maintenance.

The donors for the sign (with BU graduation dates) are Edith Hawk, Mel (1958) and Alice (1961) Hawk, Galen (1969) and Janie Hawk, Larry (1966) and Marcia (1967) Hawk, Lois (Hawk) Snavely (1966).
