A new name, but the same place. Jo’s Diner has taken the place of the previous Baldwin City Diner. A new owner took over and officially opened for business last November.

Jolyn Wendt worked at the restaurant for the past 11 years and has stuck it out through six different owners during that time. She is a familiar face to anyone who frequents the diner.

“There’s been six owners, so I thought, ‘why don’t I become the seventh?’” Wendt said.

She praises her family, including her four sons, for helping her make the changes and renovations needed to run the diner smoothly.

“We have our regular customers who come in all the time,” Wendt said. “We always notice when someone is missing.”

Jo’s Diner is a local place where Baldwin City residents and Baker students alike can mingle and drink a cup of coffee.

“The waiting staff was very friendly and they had my order out in a reasonable amount of time,” junior Parks Boeschen.

According to sophomore Eli Stout, the food was and still is great, even after the change in owner.

“The food at Jo’s Diner is really good,” Stout said. “‘I like that the menu still has all of the items I liked before it got a new owner. The food was and still is scrumptious.”

Wendt has made a few changes to the menu at the diner, but nothing extreme. There are still specials, but they are no longer listed on the menu, and some of the specials are different than they were in the past. The specials can be found on the diner’s new website.

Breakfast is served all day at the diner. Wendt recently named an omelet after Baker’s mascot. The “Wildcat” omelet is now featured on the menu. Wendt wants to show that Baker students are welcome to come by the diner.
