Bryan VanOsdale has taken on a brand new position created at Baker University as the full-time director of greek life.
“We hired Bryan to take over the whole realm of greek life on campus,” Associate Dean of Students Mark Zeno said.
Zeno and Director of Student Activities Shelby Coxon were jointly in charge of greek life prior to the creation fo the position.
Zeno said VanOsdale would be in charge of all the fraternities and sororities on campus, all the governing councils on campus and all the programming initiatives for greek life. Coxon said having a staff member who can focus solely on greek life will be beneficial.
“It’s going to be fantastic because I know this past year, there were so many things that we wanted to do and students wanted to do,” Coxon said.
Zeno said VanOsdale’s position will benefit both greeks and independents.
“Anytime you can add more resources on a campus for any organization, it helps all students in general,” Zeno said.
Junior Michelle Burton gave VanOsdale a tour of campus when he was interviewing for the job. Burton said she looks forward to seeing VanOsdale improve the image of greek life on campus and bring unity between greeks and independents.
“I know this is something he’s really passionate about, and he’s putting a lot of time and work into it,” Burton said.
Senior David McCain, president of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and Interfraternity Council said VanOsdale will be good for Baker as a whole.
“Right now, we feel we have a system because every house is an individual,” McCain said. “That’s not necessarily a bad thing because every house has their individual qualities, but we want to come up together as a community in order to accomplish bigger goals.”
