Many changes have been going on at the Kwik Shop throughout the summer, both inside and outside of the store.
To Baker University students who lived in Baldwin City during the summer, the outside of “the Kwik,” as students call the convenience store, stirred curiosity.
“I was curious as to what was going on,” sophomore Reina Murphy said about the appearance of construction tools and yellow tape in the Kwik parking lot. “My friend and I were kind of confused about it whenever we drove by.”
Construction crews began surface repairs to the concrete parking lot in early June.
“We’ve been replacing bad cement in the parking lot,” Kwik Shop Manager Kim Dunn said.
“It’s been a big ordeal, and it will continue for a while; there’s quite a bit they want to redo.”
Dunn said the Kwik lost some business because it was frustrating for some people to enter and exit the store, but the upkeep was necessary.
“These repairs have been a long time coming,” Dunn said. “It’s a good thing the potholes and uneven surfaces are finally getting repaired.”
New additions and cuts to store retail may also gain customer’s attention.
“ICEEs are a thing of the past,” Dunn said.
The ICEE drink machine was replaced about two weeks ago with a frozen beverage machine, which dispenses Dr Pepper, Mountain Dew and Pepsi soft drinks.
A milkshake machine was installed about a month ago, which also offers frozen, blended cappuccino and fruit smoothies, in addition to ice cream milkshakes.
"I love milkshakes. This is bad news for my wallet," sophomore Maci Harshbarger said.<br/>Murphy thinks the additions are an overall good thing for the Kwik.Murphy thinks the additions are an overall good thing for the Kwik.

“I always go to the Kwik Shop because everything is closed in Baldwin after 11 (p.m.),” Murphy said. “The Kwik is now a prime place to go for a milkshake.”
