A theory came into my mind this summer. A couple occurrences had taken place that led to this thought. It’s really quite obvious the more I think about it.
First off, I was surprised at the amount of optimism Chiefs fans had for the Kansas City rookie class and the upcoming season.
Secondly, I have been amazed to see fans attend pointless baseball games both in the majors and minors on days that the ferocious sun was on baking mode and the teams were out of contention.
The theory evolves in the Midwest region. You see, everyone knows the Midwest faces several drastic changes in weather throughout the extent of the year. The temperature skyrockets in the summer and drops below freezing commonly in the winter.
The people in the Midwest thus must cope with the changes. They must adapt and make do.The people in the Midwest thus must cope with the changes. They must adapt and make do.

Therefore, the Midwest is a great place for sports teams.
No matter how bad the win-loss records get, no matter how many draft picks are wasted or how many discipline problems cloud an organization, the Midwest people will continue to show up and most of all show interest in their teams.
How else can you explain the Arrowhead Stadium sellout record? The team hasn’t won a Super Bowl since practically the creation of the big game.
And yet they come with their face paint and signs and most of all, they come with hope. This optimism springs forth every single season without waver.
That’s because in the middle of the country, no matter what the conflict or situation, the citizens just deal with it.
They’ve adjusted to the drastic weather variations, and they’ll find ways to cope and positives to dwell upon.
That’s not to say other parts of the country haven’t faced terrible sports performances or decaying sports franchises. But it seems as though in other regions there are just more titles being brought home.
Yet there continues to be constant radio talk shows and Internet bloggers raving about the upcoming seasons and how improvement will take place.
It’s beautiful really, the enthusiasm expressed by Midwest fans. Add in the fact that some tailgate food around the area has become world famous and the Midwest is straight up big time for sports programs.
Some might say things are saddening because losing has become ingrained in the culture.
But in reality, most teams really could turn things around at some point. In baseball, it might be the most difficult because of the team salary disparity around the league.
No matter what the score or the team's record, fans in this region will stick around. No matter what the score or the team's record, fans in this region will stick around.
Someday, theoretically, every team comes around and at least becomes competitive.
