On Halloween, Professor of Psychology Tony Brown made himself stand out by dressing as a chicken. Five days later, he was dressed in business attire and sitting with his fellow Baldwin city council members at a scheduled meeting.

No matter the outfit, Brown is a visible figure at Baker University and in the Baldwin City community. Brown has been part of Baker for 18 years. Along with teaching psychology, Brown is the psychology department chair and teaches LA 401.
“What attracted me to Baker was the size because my college was also small, and it totally transformed me,” he said. “I wanted to return back to the small atmosphere to give my students the same quality and experience that I received.”
Senior Stefanie Lindsay said Brown is very approachable and makes it easy for students to come to him with questions.
“I think he definitely gives the students responsibility, in a good way,” she said. “He doesn’t just spoon feed us everything.”
Along with being part of Baker, Brown is an active member in the community. He has been a member of the city council since the spring of 2004.
“It’s definitely not something you do for the money,” Brown said. “It’s a great experience, and I am glad I accepted the position.”
Outside of work, Brown is a family man. Originally from Indiana, Brown is married and has one daughter, who is 12 years old. He enjoys reading and collecting bibliographies, watching baseball and working out.
“I really like to exercise,” he said. “No one has to force me to get on a treadmill, I could get on one and just run for a long time.”
Brown said he plans to remain at Baker because he enjoys its size, intimacy and family atmosphere.
“We are able to share a common experience with people, and that is valuable in our modern world, where everyone is everywhere, and we can bring it all together here,” he said.
