With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, Baker University will be celebrating the holiday with its own version of MTV’s “Singled Out.”
Director of Student Activities Cassie Gilmore said she wanted to do something fun that everyone could enjoy.
Gilmore said she needed to find two people who were outgoing, well known around campus and who would be willing to participate in this event.
Senior Jessica Uhler and sophomore Brad Fawcett will be competing for their most compatible matchup.
“I think both Jessica and Brad will be perfect contestants for the game because they both have really great personalities and will be able to have fun with whatever comes their way,” she said.
In order to be part of the show, students need to fill out a survey asking questions from different categories. The ones who answer the same as the two contestants will move to the next round and so on.
“I used to watch the show ‘Singled Out’ all the time with (host) Jenny McCarthy, and I am so excited to be doing something like this here at school,” Uhler said. “I think it will be funny to see what questions everyone will be answering and to see who chooses the same answers as I do.”
Sophomore Cody Conover said he would definitely be there to watch Fawcett be the guy that girls are trying to compete for.
“I’ve never seen the show before, but it sounds like it will be pretty intense,” Conover said. “I can’t wait to see which girl matches up with Brad.”
The event is free admission, and food and drinks will be provided.
Categories round
The picker is presented with a board showing six categories. After choosing a category, the picker will be asked to eliminate one of the choices. After eliminating a choice, all the contestants who fit that choice will leave the dating pool. This process will be repeated until five to eight potentials are left.
“Keep ’em or Dump ’em” round
The picker asks a series of questions. If the picker is satisfied with the answer or performance, he or she will “keep” the contestant, advancing them to the final round. If the picker is not satisfied, he or she will “dump” the contestant, eliminating him or her from further play.
The Final Cut
The wall will be removed from behind the picker to reveal a walkway with several spaces behind him or her. The three finalists start on the back step, and are asked a series of two-choice questions. Each time a contestant’s answer matches the picker’s, the player advances one space on the walkway. The first player to make it to the circle wins.
The Reveal
After a couple has been made, the two contestants are placed back-to-back while the host reads a description of the winning player to the picker. The contestants then turn around to meet and receive their prizes.
