The Baker University volleyball team is on a roll for making marks in the history books. For the first time ever, the Wildcats collected 30 wins in a single season.
BU took down William Jewell College Tuesday in Collins Center 3-1, to total its record to 30-3. The women sit at No. 2 in the HAAC and an 8-1 record. Head coach Kathy Allen said the remarkable 30-win mark was special for the team.
“These girls humble me everyday,” Allen said. “They work hard, and put so much heart and soul into the game and have fun.”
Though the ‘Cats didn’t play their best game, Allen said, a solid team effort and balanced performances from the team contributed to the victory over the Cardinals.
“A lot of players stepped up, and we had a lot of balance,” she said. “Christina (Delladio) led the team in kills this time. Nichole (Kamies), Nikki (Anderson) and Kelsey (Wise) all had good hitting games and everything was more dispersed.”
Delladio recorded 15 kills, followed just behind by junior Brooke Pryor with 12, and Kamies added eight.
Coach Allen said she was especially impressed with the play of libero Brooke Allen, who collected an impressive 46 digs. The number was a season-high for Brooke Allen and helped toward her No. 1 ranking in the NAIA in digs per game (6.97).
“She had 11 digs per game, which is unheard of,” coach Allen said. “She was amazing, she really was.”
Serving was also solid for the Wildcats as the team was led by sophomore Kelsey Allen with four service aces, and Brooke Allen added three.
The Wildcats will conclude their regular and conference season at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Collins Center in a HAAC showdown against MidAmerica Nazarene University. The match will also feature senior night. <br/>&#160;
