Senior Allie Heinen has run tirelessly up and down the court for four years at Baker University, quietly working her way into the record books.
On Jan. 24, the De Soto native recorded her 1,000th point as a Wildcat against the Cardinals of William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo. After scoring 21 points against Benedictine College Monday, Heinen’s career point total of 1,094 put her in sixth place on Baker’s all-time list.
While former Wildcat Triece Baker’s school record of 1,666 points is most likely safe, Heinen could continue to move her way up Baker’s list of all-time scorers before her career is complete. She trails former ‘Cat Erin Robinson by just 30 points and the fourth-highest scorer in school history Ola Ciepla by 64 points.
During her career, Heinen wasn’t always asked to be a central figure on offense, but this season she has adapted her game, head coach Susan Decker said.
“She has really stepped up her offensive production this year and been a go-to player for us,” Decker said.
Despite being quiet by nature, Heinen’s teammates still see the effort she gives.
“Allie has been an incredible asset to this team,” junior Whitney Rogers said. “Not only from her scoring abilities but her ability to be a great leader. She has done a great job as a senior and a captain out on the floor this year. She’s never given less than 100 percent anytime I’ve ever watched her play.”
