It’s no secret the campus fitness center needed an update.
It was gloomy, outdated and full of broken equipment. But not anymore.
Students no longer will have to wait for a working machine. Instead, they’ll be able to jump right onto a new piece of equipment.
But just how did Baker pay for this?
We all know the amount of debt the university is in, so why did we focus on renovating the fitness center?
First things first, an anonymous donation made 90 percent of the renovation possible. So, thank you, whoever you are. We needed it and it’s greatly appreciated.
When given the donation, Baker was to use it in a way that students would benefit, and University President Pat Long knew just what that was – sprucing up a campus facility that’s part of the daily lives of many students.
It's easy to say that over the past year the university administrators haven't always taken the students into account when making decisions, but this action proved differently.
This action showed they cared. This action showed they cared.

Long could have easily chosen to use the money in a different way, but she didn't.
She could have forgotten about the students, but she didn't.She could have forgotten about the students, but she didn't.

She put all else aside and listened to the students; did what they asked for and needed.
She even threw in a little of Baker's money to really spiffy the place up.She even threw in a little of Baker's money to really spiffy the place up.

No, a renovated fitness center shouldn’t have been a priority in these tough economic times. But why not?
This is the university's way of giving back to the students in a truly beneficial form.
So, think of the gain and be thankful. So, think of the gain and be thankful.
