The Baker women’s soccer team got off to a slow start with a scoreless first half, but came back on fire after halftime and grabbed a 6-0 victory Friday against Culver-Stockton College.
With each of the six goals coming from six different athletes, it was teamwork that gave the ‘Cats an advantage over Culver-Stockton.
Jenny Haynes started things off by netting a goal less than 10 minutes into the second half. The five remaining goals came from Christine Janssens, Ashley Ukena, Alix Shiraldi, Cara Hollinsworth, and Rachel Shepard.
Sophomore Bre Hoener said it was the confidence to take risks that made all the difference between the first and second half for the ‘Cats.
“I think that we just got a little more confident and just started taking shots that we needed to, and in the first half we weren’t really finishing them,” Hoener said.
The ‘Cats will hope to carry that confidence on into their next game as they take on Graceland University at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Liston Stadium. This will be Baker’s last game of the regular season.
Having lost to Graceland last year, the ‘Cats are hoping to turn the tables and defeat the team that is leading the HAAC.
“We are expecting them to be really good, but we know that we can beat them,” Hoener said. “It’s going to be a really tough game, but I think we are going to just come in really strong.”
