Faculty art show opens in Holt-Russell gallery
The Holt-Russell Gallery opened on Feb. 1 with a reception celebrating faculty artwork. The faculty biennial exhibit features the work of different faculty members from around campus. Each artist took a different approach to show off their skills.
“It was really exciting. We had a lot of students and faculty show up,” senior Abby Kaff said.
Kaff has helped work on the gallery all semester, some of her jobs include measuring and hanging up the artwork and running the social media accounts.
A mixture of pieces is shown throughout the gallery, with tags by each piece that explains the artist, the name of the artwork and a little bit more information.
Professor of Art Inge Bach’s artwork focused on representing Saints and different issues in today’s culture. Her ceramic pieces tell a story through different colors and accessories added to each piece.
Woven and fabric pieces are also part of the gallery. Adjunct Professor of Mass Media Carla Tilghman used intricate patterns and colors that make the different fabrics pop.
The last pieces in the gallery are oil paintings created by Assistant Professor of Art and Manager of the Holt-Russell Gallery Russell Horton. His pieces take inspiration from different places in the world that have sparked his interest.
“I have favorite experiences making them,” Horton said.
The gallery is open until Feb. 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week and noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
