Football wins fifth straight
The Baker University Wildcat football team went into Fayette, Mo. on a four-game winning streak and extended it to five after defeating the Central Methodist University Eagles 41-14.
After being forced to punt on their first offensive drive, the Wildcats came out strong on the second offensive drive and scored a touchdown highlighted by a 62-yard run by JD Woods. Going 77 yards on seven plays the drive was capped off with a three-yard touchdown run from Woods for the first score of the game by either team.
The Eagle offense then responded with a long scoring drive of their own to tie the score at 7-7 with 3:25 left in the first quarter.
The Wildcats answered on the next offensive drive with a touchdown off a 10-yard pass from Marco Aguinaga to Sam Huckabee to lead 14-7 with 13:30 left in the second quarter. Grant Elston then intercepted a pass from the Eagle’s quarterback to give the ball right back to the Wildcat offense on the Eagle 26-yard line. Woods then scored his second touchdown of the game with a 23-yard run to go ahead 21-7.
The Wildcats scored again before the half to make it 28-7 going into halftime after a 19-yard run by Nigil Graves-Houston.
Baker kicked off to start the second half and forced the Eagles to punt. The Wildcat offense then picked up where they left off and scored again after a 63-yard drive that ended with another touchdown run by Woods to make the score 35-7.
With 6:12 left in the third quarter the Wildcat defense conceded a touchdown run to the Eagles bringing the score to 35-14.
The Wildcat offense would go on to score one more time to bring the score to 41-14 after the extra point attempt was blocked by the Eagles. The final score was 41-14 as the Wildcats coasted to their fifth straight win.
The Wildcats will face rival Benedictine College Ravens on Sat. Nov. 9 at Liston Stadium with a kickoff time of 1 p.m.
