From MySpace to Facebook to Twitter, forms of social networking are everywhere and show no signs of slowing down in growth or expansion.
Facebook, one of the most popular, is found to be convenient as many older users have used it to reconnect with colleagues. Through networks, people are able to easily identify the connections between others and it’s a great way to check up on people without having to call them and face one awkward pause after another.
MySpace, on the other hand, has been referred to as the new booty call, and while there is some truth to that, it is still a great way to communicate and keep in touch with friends.
Twitter is the most misunderstood and unappreciated social network of them all. Mind you, certain social networks aren’t made for everybody, and likewise everybody isn’t made for social networking.
As an avid “tweeter” for more than a year now, I’ve racked up 1,093 followers while following 346, who include real-life friends, music artists, family members and your average Joe.
Celebrities, athletes and regular people like myself take to Twitter to indulge in the latest gossip as well. Essentially, your Twitter account is what you make it – there’s no right or wrong way to tweet.
However, if your tweets consist of monotonous phrases of ‘brushing my teeth’ or ‘sitting down’ then Twitter is not for you. The cool thing about Twitter is that it provides a list of Trending Topics, which are the 10 current and most popular topics, or even random ones like these: #nothingpersonal #uglynames #liesmentell. They are written with the number sign in front and as one word so that they can appear on a public timeline for everyone to see.
For example, if I wanted to participate in the #liesmentell topic, I could tweet things like “I was working overtime,” or “That’s a red crayon, not lipstick,” or “I don’t live with my mom, she lives with me” or maybe even “my phone is trippin'” which we all know is code for he didn’t pay the bill.
Some may call what I do pathetic and I need to get a life (as I have acquired more than 20 accounts through the years), but that’s exactly what social networking is – a life outside of life!
But while the people on the outside looking in laugh in mockery of this hobby, I know they are probably bottling up the curiosity of being a computer-savvy person who is fluent with the social networking world, but #nothingpersonal.<br/>&#160;
