The psychology department is conducting its own experiment this semester by testing out a new approach to teaching.
General Psychology is now being taught in three sections, in accordance to the instructor’s area of expertise. Assistant Professor of Psychology Wendi Born will cover the section of clinical psychology.
“We thought it would be better we teach what we know best,” Born said. “I am sharing things others wouldn’t be able too.”
Other professors involved are Assistant Professor of Psychology Sara Crump and Associate Professor of Psychology Marc Carter. Instructor of Psychology RaLynn Schmalzried has filled in for Carter this semester, however.
“I have enjoyed switching around,” Schmalzried said. “As a young teacher it is beneficial to be able to try different teaching styles.”
After the first few weeks of introduction to the course, the professors made their switch to a new class to cover their topic. The department will not know how students accepted the change until class evaluations are submitted.
“We will just have to see how it goes and what the students say,” Crump said.
