After coming off of a bye week, the Baker football team’s offense continues to progress as the Wildcats defeated Culver-Stockton College 63-10.

The Wildcats showed some signs of improvement before the bye week by defeating Avila University 41-17, but the offense continue to improve against Culver-Stockton, netting 298 passing yards and 163 rushing yards for 461 total yards of offense.

Freshman Scott Meyer and junior John Babb led the Baker rushing attack with 83 yards and 60 yards respectively, with a touchdown a piece. Freshman Jake Morse threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns and sophomore Zach Faust threw for 55 yards and a touchdown.

Although the special team play struggled by missing three field goals and three extra point attempts, a blocked punt, returned 14 yards for a touchdown by sophomore Jake Green, helped the Baker offense get out to an early lead.

“You know how special teams can make or break you,” head coach Mike Grossner said. “We knew we could get after their punt. (Green) basically took it off the foot and scored a touchdown that got us going.”

Defensively, the Wildcats forced four turnovers and senior Matt Brock led the team with nine tackles. Culver-Stockton scored it’s oknly touchdown in the final five minutes of the game.

“Everybody up and down today, we all played really well,” Green said. “It feels good when everything clicks together like this.”

The Wildcats will face No. 6 Lindenwood University 1 p.m. Saturday at Liston Stadium.
