After matching up against Ottawa University for the second time in a week, the Baker volleyball team battled Bethel College Saturday evening and eventually pulled out another win after five games of play.
Never losing or winning by more than four points, the Wildcats finished off the Threshers 15-13.
Senior Alexis Pryor said the team didn’t play to the best of its ability but was still able to put a whole match together and pull out a win.
“We didn’t play exceptionally well but even on our off day, we pulled out a win and that says a lot about our team,” Pryor said.
The young team was led on the offensive side by sophomore Brooke Pryor, who recorded 25 kills. Alexis Pryor was just behind her with 17. Senior Jayde Allen protected the back line and recorded 36 digs. The team finished with a total of six blocks.
Brooke Pryor attributed the recent streak of success to the continuous development of team chemistry.
“We now know how to play with each other and how to build each other back up after our mistakes,” Brooke Pryor said. “We’re getting more and more confident as we go.”
Only two hours before, the Wildcats put away Ottawa University for the second time in three games (25-18, 25-17, 25-20). While Alexis Pryor recorded 12 kills, she gave credit to a lot of the freshmen who have stepped into leadership roles this season.
As of Monday, the team was on a seven-match winning streak. The team matched up against Park University Wednesday in Collins Center. Results were unavailable at presstime.
“We are really young this year with nine freshmen,” Alexis Pryor said.
The team has brought many new players but Alexis Pryor said she expects the team to peak in ability later in the season.
“Last year we peaked at the beginning of the year, but we’re progressing slower, meaning hopefully we’ll peak at the end of the season,” Alexis Pryor said.
The team travels to St. Charles, Mo., Friday to participate in the Lindenwood University Invitational where the team will meet up with No. 9 ranked Lindenwood.
“The Lindenwood tournament is always really competitive,” Alexis Pryor said. “It will be a really good test to see where we are at and see what we can improve on
