Baldwin City hosts Smoke on the Bricks
Smoke on the Bricks is the annual barbeque competition sponsored by Rice Precision in Baldwin City. This year was the third year for the event. Teams set up food trucks and tents as early as 9 a.m. on Friday Aug. 20 along the streets of downtown Baldwin to begin preparing food for the weekend.
This competition serves as a “Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned competition” for those looking to qualify for the American Royal World Series of Barbecue and the Jack Daniels World Championship. 51 teams competed for the top 10 overall prizes as well as top 10 prizes in the chicken, ribs and pork categories. This year, the top three teams were also awarded in the sausage and dessert categories.
Students and Baldwin City locals took part in the Smoke on the Bricks festivities Friday evening and winners were awarded Saturday evening. Stay tuned to the Baldwin City Recreation Committee Facebook and Instagram to check out the list of winners.
