Baker University’s admissions department is hoping Junior Day on Saturday will encourage high school juniors to consider Baker when they make one of the biggest decisions of their lives.
Director of Admissions Daniel McKinney said the sooner students come to campus, the better the chances are that they will choose Baker.
“That’s never been a question. There are two things about this: one, the earlier students and parents make a connection, the better. With all the components that go into this decision, it’s key to get an early start. And two, by being on campus earlier, you learn what educational opportunities you’ll have, what opportunities will challenge and cause you to grow as a learner.”
Freshman Tiffany Cornett, a university admissions assistant, said Junior Day can be beneficial to those who show up, but getting students interested can be a challenge.
“We sent out a lot of mailings,” she said, “Kids don’t like to sit and listen to lectures on financial aid and scholarships; they care more about what the social life is like. But for the few of them that are thinking about college and to get others in the mindset of finding a college, (Junior Day) is a good idea.”
