Elden Tefft’s woman sculpture “Prairie Spirit” is back on display on Baker’s campus after being gone for several years.
"I think she's beautiful," Inge Balch, professor of art, said. "She has that wonderful spirit."<br/>Tefft, a retired professor from the University of Kansas, created the bronze sculpture in the early 1990s.Tefft, a retired professor from the University of Kansas, created the bronze sculpture in the early 1990s.

Balch said Tefft created “Prairie Spirit” in gossamer style, which is characterized by using very open fabric, representing how the sculpture’s spirit is open.
“What she stands for is the openness of the prairie,” Balch said.
Over the course of almost two decades, the sculpture has been taken down and put back up at least three times, all due to vandalism. But on Monday, the sculpture was put back up in the middle of campus.
“I just love seeing her back,” Balch said. “I would love to see more art.”
