Students attending ARTSmosphere, an Artist and Lecture Series piece, on April 16 may be attending the finale of a tradition that began at Baker University in 1881.
“It’s a very important piece of Baker’s heritage,” Anne Daugherty, chair of liberal arts, said. “It is a valuable part of the liberal arts, but finances are making us ask things that needed to be asked.”
Daugherty said while the university is considering eliminating the program in upcoming years, it is hoping to develop a program that is similar, although it may have a different name and format. She said the university wants to create a program that will be more important to students.
Daugherty is set to meet with Provost Randy Pembrook on April 13 to determine the outcome of the program.
