It seems Baker University students’ opinions can make a difference, even in the cafeteria menu.
On Nov. 2, one of the cafeteria’s normal vendors, U.S. Foodservice, provided food samples to students to taste and provide feedback on. The students were supposed to indicate whether they would be interested to see each item on the cafeteria menu.
The results are back with the top choice being breadsticks with mozzarella cheese, and Food Service Manager Johnnie Jardon said Baker students will begin to see menu changes soon.
“In fact, I have already tried to incorporate the No. 1 product, but (U.S. Foodservice) had run out,” Jardon said.
Jardon said changing the menu was relatively simple. He said the monthly budget for the cafeteria is approximately $40,000.
“It doesn’t take much to change the menu,” he said. “Some of it’s due to price and (if we) are … able to make it and mass produce it.”
Several Baker students welcomed the chance to introduce menu changes, especially healthier foods.
“I feel like what they serve now is really unhealthy, and even if I try to eat healthy, it doesn’t work out,” sophomore Sarah Schmid said.
Sophomore Ali Sherman said she is not sure this is the best route.
“Actually, I think they need to make to a lot of changes, but I don’t think we should get another large food service,” Sherman said. “We’re in the farming capital of the United States, and we should be able to get better food than something frozen or from a box.”
