This game is one that many won’t forget as the Baker University football Team takes the victory over the 25th ranked Graceland Yellowjackets on this special homecoming week.
The first half was quite a back-and-forth battle as Sophomore quarterback Truman Juelsgaard led the team to four touchdowns and a thirty-eight-yard pass to Senior running back Kwan Brooks with four minutes left in the half. Less than a minute after Brooks received the touchdown, it was the forty-yard pick-six from Junior safety Thad Metcalfe with three minutes left in the half that gave the Wildcats some confidence going into the locker room.
During halftime, Baker recognized all the Hall of Fame inductees on the field with some Hall of Famers that were inducted years previously.
The Homecoming Court was also announced during halftime with eleven amazing nominees. Seniors Cate Nearmyer, Seth Dankenbring and Taylor Nicholson were the three chosen by the students here at Baker within the last week.
After the half, there wasn’t much of any scoring for either team. Going into the fourth quarter it was all tied up at 28 with fifteen minutes left in the game.
Baker was up by as much as ten points in the fourth quarter, but Graceland quickly responded with two quick drives resulting in touchdowns putting them ahead by three with five minutes left to go. With three minutes left Juelsgaard connected with Rashaan Graves in a five-yard reception into the endzone putting Baker up by three and putting the Wildcats at a record of 3-1.
Baker faces off against Culver-Stockton Sept. 30 at 12 p.m. in Canton, Mo.
