Are you ready for some football?
Yes, I’m fully aware this is April, but am I not allowed to look forward to the football season months away?
Don’t get me wrong. I actually happen to have a pretty much equal love of all sports. Or, I can at least tolerate watching pretty much any sporting event. Personally, not having really any athletic abilities, I enjoy watching, and even yelling at, the athletes on my television screen.
All last month I was rooting for the underdog teams of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, while watching my bracket get annihilated by every upset, making me very upset.
I’m making it a goal to go to at least one Royals game, because nothing comes close to the lively atmosphere of a baseball stadium on a spring day.
I’ve even watched a NASCAR race here and there, and felt the adrenaline rush of the checkered-flag lap.
So, you can imagine how I must be feeling since the NFL is experiencing a potential lockout that could possibly keep a football season from happening this year.
I’m a little sad, to say the least. What am I going to do with my Sunday afternoons? Homework? No, thanks.
You might be thinking, why am I already freaking out about this? Preseason doesn’t even start until August.
The owners and players have five months to negotiate how to settle the collective bargaining agreement that was supposed to be figured out last month.
And, it’s not like these football players or their owners want to go on hiatus for a year. They want those Sunday games as much as I do.
But it’s also not like they couldn’t have anticipated this coming. They all knew what would happen if negotiations couldn’t be met. The season would be done for. It’s time for them to take care of some unfinished business before it’s too late.
I’m ready for some football.
