Baker’s softball team will open this season with a tournament in Arkansas with five other teams, and coach Matt Windle is hoping to come out with at least three wins.
Due to inclement weather, Baker has yet to practice at Cavaness Field this year, so the first game is expected to be the most difficult.
Five of the 13 girls are freshman, but Windle is confident in the leadership provided by the seniors, as well as the talent of pitchers freshman Heather Gruber and sophomore Brittany Vollenweider.
“We are in the hands of the pitchers this weekend,” Windle said.
The first home game is a doubleheader scheduled for 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. March 9 versus William Jewell College. <br/>&#160;
