Many college students are taking a break from classes and work by basking in the sun while listening to the music at outdoor concerts this summer.
Sophomore Taryn Curry even got sunburned recently while attending Country Stampede in Manhattan. But Curry feels that her great Country Stampede experience was well worth the red skin.
“It was amazing,” Curry said. “I camped with my friends the whole weekend and had a great time. It‘s all in the fun of Stampede.”
Musical artists Sugarland and the Charlie Daniels Band were the two acts that Curry was most anxious to see. Curry and her friends saw some bands perform up close, which heightened her concert experience.
“For the Charlie Daniels Band, we got upper-deck passes so we were on stage with them,” she said. “We were right by Western Underground, which is (the late) Chris LeDoux’s band, so it was great.”
While some big outdoor music festivals like Country Stampede and alternative rock music fest Vans Warped Tour, have all ready packed up their instruments and left Kansas, others festivals are still coming up.
Lollapalooza, another country music festival, is scheduled for July 11 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Bonner Springs. Sophomore Taryn Britain is looking forward to attending Lollapalooza, mostly because music artist Gary Allan will be performing.<br/>"I'm going with a friend from (the University of Kansas) because we went a couple years ago and had a blast," Britain said. If outdoor concerts aren't appealing, many indoor concerts are planned for the area. <br/>Music artists the Foo Fighters, 311 and Journey are some of the artists that will be making tour stops.Music artists the Foo Fighters, 311 and Journey are some of the artists that will be making tour stops.

Britain also plans to see Brad Paisley with her mom and Jack Johnson with a friend who will fly from Florida just to see the music artist.
Junior Alli Lewis attended Death Cab For Cutie's latest performance at City Market. While she enjoyed the concert, she found the size of the indoor venue slightly unpleasant.<br/>"It was so crowded, but what do you expect at a concert?" “I’m going to so many concerts because I enjoy a variety of music and like to see them live as well as listen to their recorded music,” Lewis said.
