On Friday, Feb. 20, Homestead Bakery in Baldwin City hosted a free coffee and donuts event that was sponsored by Clearwave Fiber. From the time the event started at nine and went till 10:30 in the morning, there was a constant line of community members and Baker students.
From the community members, Homestead is considered a staple in Baldwin City, as it has some of the best brunch and drink options. Walking into Homestead, you feel like a part of the community, and that is exactly what Clearwave Fiber wanted to do.
“Clearwave Fiber usually does this event once or twice a month,” said a member of the Clearwave Fiber team. “This is one of our most popular events as we get a lot of people from Baldwin and the surrounding towns.”
Clearwave Fiber is an internet service provider that started in Illinois and is spreading across the country. The closest provider is in Gardner, Kansas, but they will continue to be seen at Maple Leaf, Homestead, and other locations with a table ready to interact with community members.
This tends to be one of Homestead’s more popular events as it provides the community free coffee and donuts.
Junior Baker student Jaclyn Daley stumbled upon the Homestead event Friday morning as she was having a weekly meeting with one of her friends. She noted that, “this event seemed to be very popular for the locals and was a really good way to draw them into the restaurant.”
Emerson Stewart, also a Baker student, explained that she was very excited about the event, as she was able to get free coffee, which she enjoys, because it saves her some money.
“I will definitely continue to check the Homestead website to find more events like this,” Stewart said.
